Ancient Egypt Trip begins the day with one of the real highlights of any visit to Egypt, a visit to the three pyramids of Giza. While once located in a remote desert, they now touch the suburbs of modern Cairo. No matter how many photos or documentaries you have seen, your first glimpse of these marvels of the ancient world will take your breath away. As a qualified Egyptologist, your tour guide can expertly explain the facts and myths behind these three mammoth works of art. You will also visit the mysterious Sphinx with its lion’s body and man’s face. If time permitting there might be the chance to see inside one of the two smaller pyramids, take a ride around the pyramids on camelback (NB. Extra entrance fees apply to all of these sites/activities) There will be time to grab a quick lunch before our afternoon visit to the Egyptian Museum. With over 10,000 pieces from every period of Egyptian history, including the treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun, the display can be a bit daunting. Ancient Egypt Trip starts our day traveling to Meidum pyramids; the original builder of this Step Pyramid was Huni, the last king of the 3rd Dynasty. Continued by king 'Snofru the builder of two other pyramids at Dashur. The reason why this king would have wanted 3 pyramids, making him the most productive pyramid builder in the history of Egypt. Lunch optional in a near local restaurant, drive to Fayoum and stop to see our next site which belongs to King Amenmhet, King Amenemhet III built two pyramids one in Dahashor (now called the black pyramid) and Hawara Pyramid, the pyramid’s core was built entirely of mud-brick stones with only an outer in limestone. The limestone encasing has been pillaged by stone robbers centuries ago but the limestone core remains, giving the modern visitor the impression of a mud-brick Mountain. The pyramid was found to contain two sarcophagi one for Amenemhet III and one for his daughter never -ptah. She was buried temporarily in her father’s pyramid until her tomb could be completed. The burial chamber is often rightly described as a technical marvel. It is carved from a single piece of hard quartzite into a rectangular. After Breakfast at the Hotel, Ancient Egypt Trip will take you to visit Wadi Al-Rayan which is a Vast area of lakes, falls, sulfur springs & sand dunes with wildlife, a place to take very nice panoramic photos, from there to Wadi Hitan (whales valley ), arrive there stop for Lunch and after lunch visit the museum (Wadi Hitan ) is a paleontological site, 2005 It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage for its hundreds of fossils of some of the earliest forms of the whale. After the tour, we drive back to the hotel, have dinner, and overnight at the hotel.

After Breakfast we drive with the Ancient Egypt Trip tour guide to visit Medinet Madi (Narmouthis) in Graeco-Roman times it was known as ‘Narmouthis’. Excavators have discovered two separate towns at the site, but today the main monument at Medinet Madi is a small temple dedicated to Sobek, Horus, and the serpent-goddess Renenutet, founded during the reigns of Amenemhet III and IV during Dynasty XII. And from there we drive back to the north where we can see one of the waterwheels still in use in Fayoum and finish our visit with Qasr Qarun Temple situated near the village of Qarun on the western edge of the Fayoum depression at the south-western edge of Birket Qarun. In ancient times the town was known as Dionysias and was the beginning of the caravan route to Bahriya Oasis. Late breakfast Then Ancient Egypt Trip today heading off by jeeps to explore Gebal Qatrani area where will see Qasr El-Sagha the date of the temple was built no later than the Middle Kingdom. Its architecture, however, was interpreted by early explorers as being in the style of Old Kingdom structures. The temple was constructed of limestone blocks of different sizes, which fit tightly together without the use of mortar and with oblique corner joints. The temple was never completed and the walls were left undecorated. The interior contains seven small chambers or shrines and an offering hall. There is also a ‘blind room’ which is completely enclosed and appears to have no entrance. On the flat plain to the south of Qasr el-Sagha, there are several sites of prehistoric villages whose inhabitants seem to have existed by hunting, farming, and fishing. In remote antiquity a forest grew on the escarpment north of the site – petrified remains can still be seen and it is thought that Birket Qarun (ancient Lake Moeris) once extended its northern shore close to the temple in the days when the lake was much larger. Lunch will be a picnic and continue to see Dimeh el-Siba (Dimeh of the Lions) south of Qasr El-Sagha, towards Birket Qarun, which is a Greco-Roman town have been founded during the Ptolemaic Period, on an earlier Neolithic settlement. Its Greek name means ‘Island of the Crocodile-god’ probably as a garrison for the Roman soldiers who protected the area from desert bandits. Within the ruins of the town were two temples that stood on a mound and were contained within mudbrick walls. The northern temple, at the end of the processional way and now ruined, was dedicated to Soknopaios, who was a form of the crocodile-God Sobek. Only the stone foundations of this temple remain today. The southern temple was constructed of mudbrick and stone and was probably of a later date. The mudbrick walls of the town can be seen from quite a distance away. They are still 10m high and the site is strewn with debris and pot-sherds which cover the whole space of the temple area. A Roman cemetery is situated to the southwest of the town. Breakfast at the Hotel then Ancient Egypt trip today travel to Cairo including a stop to visit Kom Aushim is the first village to be reached when traveling the desert road from Cairo, south-east towards the Fayoum and the center for visiting several sites of interest. Kom Aushim has a small museum, almost hidden in its gardens, which has been recently renovated and includes artifacts found in the Fayoum which date from the prehistoric to Roman periods. There are some good Middle Kingdom models from Hawara, the colossal head of a Roman god from Karanis, and many items of pottery and coins found in the Fayoum.
