Esna was an important cultural center in the Ptolemaic Period, although archaeological evidence dates from as early as the Middle Kingdom. The Temple of Esna was the last Egyptian temple to be decorated with hieroglyphic texts. It was erected in the Ptolemaic Period. Esna Temple or temple of Khnum in the center of Esna, Khnum is the ram-headed local god, The outer walls bear reliefs and inscriptions by Roman Emperors. Domitian is depicted smiting his enemies in the presence of Khnum and Menheyet, and on the north side, Khnum, with the goddess Nebtu standing behind him, presents Trajan, also shown smiting his enemies, with the sickle sword. Temple walls are decorated with some unique ritual scenes, such as the dance of the pharaoh before the gods, and the catching of fishes and birds with a clap net. The temple’s columns, decorated mainly with inscriptions, display the only temple ritual known from ancient Egypt that is preserved. The other stop will be at the cemetery of El-Moalla, two important tombs among many belonging to provincial governors and officials of the Old Kingdom to the First Intermediate Period can be found here.
The Tomb of Ankhtifi has many interesting scenes, Fishing is especially interesting for its varieties of fish, which the deceased is spearing and reeling in, while his wife is holding a bird by its beak. 6Day 6 : : Visit Dendera and Abydos
Ancient Egypt Trip full-day tour to two amazing temples in Egypt both are so unique and has so rich information about Egyptian history, culture, and art you will regret if you have not visited those two temples. Ancient Egypt Trip pick up from the hotel and drive to a city called Qena where we stop to visit Dendera Temple complex (Hathor Temple) is quite large, boasting a basilica, two birth houses, a sacred lake, and numerous other temples and shrines within its walls from different ancient Egyptian eras, with monuments from the Middle Kingdom, the Ptolemaic Era, and the period of Roman provincial rule. There is evidence that the first building was around 2250 BC, but the standing structures mostly date from the Ptolemaic era forward. In 1995 BC, the oldest structure currently there is from Nectanebo II 345 BCE. it may be more accurate to say the structure as we know it began in 54 BCE when construction began on the Temple of Hathor, The Temple of Hathor is one of the most well-preserved antiquity sites in Egypt today, built during the Ptolemaic Dynasty and completed under the Roman emperor Trajan, who is seen depicted on the walls of the complex making offerings to Hathor. The temple complex also includes a monumental gateway, constructed by Trajan as well as Domitian, another Roman emperor. This site was the center of the cult of Hathor. With two unique things: Happy Reunion, Hathor would journey from her temple at Dendera to spend some time with her husband, Horus, at his temple in Edfu. This “reunion” was a yearly occurrence, and at the end of the celebration, the return of Hathor to Dendera was thought to signal the official beginning of the flood season of the Nile. The famous Zodiac of Dendera, bas-relief with human and animal figures represented a night skyscape and was found on the ceiling of a chapel in the Temple of Hathor.
After we finish here, we drive further north to a place called Abydos where we visit The Temple of Seti, Abydos city was the site of many ancient temples and was the burial place for the first kings of a unified Egypt. Nearby there was also a predynastic cemetery with hundreds of graves. Today we visit the Abydos temple which was built by King Seti and his son Ramses, Seti built the temple itself, while Ramses completed the decorations, the surrounding courtyards, and other works. The temple is made of white limestone and each chapel is roofed with flat corbelling slabs decorated with royal cartouches and stars. These chapels were dedicated to Seti I, Osiris, Isis, Ptah-Sokar, Nefertem, Ra-Horakhty, Amun, and Horus. Each chapel was decorated with prayers to each specific deity, In a hallway in the temple, there is an inscription on the wall known as the Abydos King List. This list names the most important pharaohs, according to Seti. There are a total of 76 pharaohs on the list., The list starts with Menes (Narmer) and ends with Seti. Menes was the founder of the First Dynasty and ruled until his death sometime around 3000 BCE. Seti ruled during the New Kingdom until he died in 1279 BC. The list, therefore, records over 1,600 years of history, although with some omissions. This King List is one of only ten found in Egypt.., Connected to Seti’s Temple is the Osirion, an underground chamber connected to the Nile, constructed from enormous blocks of stone. After the visit, we drive back to Luxor and finish at your hotel -
