    Day 3 : : Alexandria Day tour

After Breakfast, and Ancient Egypt Trip takes you to explore all the incredible sites at Alexandria, Alexandria founded by Alexander the Great around 331BC, Egypt's only Mediterranean city is characterized by a distinctly European atmosphere and refreshing sea breezes. sites are Fort Qaitbay Situated at the entrance of the eastern harbor on the eastern point of Pharos Island, it was erected on the exact site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In the fourteenth century, there was a very destructive earthquake and the whole building was destroyed and the fortification you see today was built in its place. was considered one of the most important defensive strongholds along the Mediterranean Sea coast. It formulated an important part of the fortification system of Alexandria in the fifteenth century AD. The next visit is to Pompey's Pillar. The name is wrong, as it has nothing to do with Pompey, having been erected in 293 for Emperor Diocletian, possibly in memory of the rebellion of Domitius Domitianus. we head to the Catacomb of Kom El-Shokafa. These tombs were tunneled into the bedrock in the age of the Antonine Emperors (second century AD) for a single wealthy family still practicing the ancient religion. They represent the last existing major construction of the old Egyptian religion. And finally, is the new Alexandria Library. The Ancient Library of Alexandria was probably the largest and certainly the most famous of the libraries of the ancient world. It flourished during Greek rule and functioned as a major center of scholarship, at least until the time of the Roman conquest of Egypt, and probably for many centuries thereafter. The old library was destroyed in a fire around the first century BC. The magnificent new Library was opened in 2002 very near the site of the ancient library, after all, we say goodbye to Alexandria and Drive back to Cairo, Ancient Egypt Trip wish you a very happy day, overnight at your hotel in Cairo.

(will be supplied with a breakfast box as you will be leaving the boat before breakfasts.) Back to Aswan, Lunch on board and sailing to Kom Ombo Cruise trip starts with the visit of Kom Omb, Temple of Kom Ombo, which is very unusual as it is dedicated to two gods: Sobek and Haroeris (the Greek name for the Egyptian god 'Hewer', which translates into 'Great Horus' or 'Horus the Elder'). It is built symmetrically, with two entrances, two sanctuaries, and a clear division that separates the temple into one-half Sobek and one-half Haroeris. It is a Ptolemaic temple, built between the reigns of Ptolemy VI and Ptolemy XII with sandstone from the nearby Gebel El Silsila quarries. The forecourt and outer corridor were added during the Roman Period. Return to your cruise boat for dinner as the boat sail towards Edu. overnight in Edfu town.

After Breakfast short horse carriages ride to visit the Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved temples in the whole country. Dedicated to the god Horus, it was built between 237BC and 57BC, during the Greek Period. The reliefs on the walls tell the story of Horus taking out his revenge on Seth, for the murder of his father; Osiris, and give a fantastic insight into ancient Egyptian religion. An enormous 10-foot-tall statue of Horus, the falcon god, stands at the entrance of the main temple building, and there is also a granite shrine to Nektanebo (360-342BC), the remains of a mamissi (birth-house), and the base of a pylon that once belonged to a Rameses II temple. The Temple of Horus is also the second-largest temple in Egypt: Karnak being the largest!
Back to the boat, lunch serves while sailing to Luxor, arrive Luxor and afternoon visit to famous two temples: Karnak, Marvel at the immense columns in Karnak Temple’s Hypostyle Hall, as well as getting to see various obelisks, statues, more columns, and various artefacts that were primarily dedicated to the god Amun, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu. Next, you will visit the smaller, in size but not in spectacle, Luxor Temple. Mainly added to by Ramses II it is now missing one of its obelisks, which can be seen in the Place de la Concorde in Paris: swapped for a clock (in the Mohammed Ali Mosque at Saladin’s Citadel) which has never worked. This temple also boasts many columns, statues, and various artefacts. Once this tour is complete you will be driven back to your Luxor hotel, though you may wish to take one of our optional extras.
